At her first bleeding a woman meets her power.During her bleeding years she practices it.
At menopause she becomes it.
~ Traditional Native American saying
TRANSITIONING into menopause
The transition period from menstruation into menopause is a powerful time to reflect, celebrate and dance into a new way of being.
RITUALS TO HONOR THE transition
DURING MOON TIME:
- Sing and Dance
Drop into the body and feel your current sensations. In short, expression through voice and movement are profound somatic healing routines.
- Set on your altar physical items from your bleeding years
Products or memorabilia used during menstruation (ie: reusable menstrual pads, menstrual cups, menstrual cramp salve, etc.) will certainly immerse you into a space of recognition, remembrance and celebration of the ways in which you tended to yourself during bleeding.
- Place a drop of blood onto a piece of cloth or a rock and place on your altar
Carry a visual representation of your bleeding years. Subsequently, you will hold direct recognition for your relationship with menstruation.
- Enjoy a celebratory meal, both alone and with sisters
Eating without distraction of a television or cell phone is a powerful grounding opportunity.
- Free bleed into the earth, pour your collected blood into the earth, and/or water your plants with your collected menstrual blood
Our blood is full of nutrients, therefore this practice is a powerful form of giving back to mother nature to preserve and nurture the earth. As a result, you will be surprised at the plants' reaction...
- Paint, color and draw
Art can be a powerful means to confront and dissolve stigma around menstruation. Likewise it can present alternatives to the everyday views of periods we see in the medical industry, advertising and our western culture.
