Uterus Size Variance
The uterus is a pear shaped, fist sized organ whose size and weight shifts and transforms in unison with the waxing and waning of each menstrual cycle.
Typically weighing around 4 ounces, it can grow to as much as 8 ounces at the time of menstruation. During menstruation we experience an increase in blood flow to not only our uterus, but to our entire body!
At the beginning of each cycle the womb thickens with the help of estrogen, and then becomes nourished even further by progesterone to prepare its growth for a possible pregnancy to be sustained. If pregnancy does not occur, all blood is released during the next menstruation.
The womb is a garden
Follicular Phase (from menstruation to ovulation)
During the first couple of weeks of the menstrual cycle it is our duty to nourish the womb with organic foods, a stress-free environment and exercise in order to grow a thick uterine lining. We are setting up the body for a strong ovulation (releasing of the egg) and an optimal luteal phase. This process is akin to mineralizing soil in a garden, preparing the base to invoke a healthy environment.
Luteal Phase (from ovulation to menstruation)
During the luteal phase our perspective flows into a more introspective nature. Because of this, we should tend to the uterus by reflecting with ourselves, acknowledging personal health (emotional, mental and physical), getting rid of what doesn’t belong in our lives and nourish what should be kept. Our lush garden that we have been caring for needs the upkeep of both watering and weeding.
When menstruation arrives again, it is time for the release of our nourished endometrium lining, aka the harvest of our garden, returning us to the fist-sized uterus.
